Introduction to Central Team

Uttoxeter Learning Trust is legally responsible for standards and for operational aspects in each of our academies. Each school continues to have its own local governing body, which works in partnership with the Trust Board. Our central team supports our schools both with back-office services such as Finance, IT and Health and Safety, and also with school improvement and standards.

Andrew Storer

Chief Finance Officer

Andy joined the Uttoxeter Learning Trust as the Business and Operations Manager for Thomas Alleyne's High School in 2017 and in 2018 alongside this role became the part time CFO for the Trust. As the role continued to develop in 2023 Andy took his current role as the full time Chief Finance Officer for the Uttoxeter Learning Trust

Andy is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants and having worked for 8 years in a local Chartered Accountants Practice began his career in education working as a Management Accountant at the University of Derby in 1993 and since then has worked in and supported schools in the Derby, Derbyshire and East Staffordshire area as a School Business Manager.

Andy brings a professional and sound financial approach to his role and continues to develop his understanding of the education system and is part of the DFE West Midlands Learning Set focusing on Financial Health.

Simon Pearce

Simon is Chair of the Trust’s Finance and Audit Committee and Link Governor for Hutchinson Memorial Church of England First School.

Simon is a Chartered Accountant with extensive experience of governance and financial management. Most recently he was Company Secretary and Director of Corporate Governance of the Financial Conduct Authority. Prior to this, his career included numerous company secretary or financial director roles in a wide range of industries, including investment banking, cruise shipping, children’s entertainment and manufacturing.

Simon is a non-executive director and chair of the Audit Committee of the Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. He was also a trustee and Honorary Treasurer of Cumberland Lodge, an educational charity based in Windsor, for 11 years.

Simon is keen to see the Trust establish itself as a leading provider of education for children throughout their school career, based on a track record of excellent outcomes for students and sound financial management. Over the next five years, he would like to see the Trust continue to grow the number and range of schools within it, gradually broadening its geographical reach whilst maintaining its strong focus on maximising students’ potential and financial stability. He would like to see schools within the Trust deriving clear benefits from being a part of progressive and effective multi-academy trust.

Sid Slater

Sid joined the Uttoxeter Learning Trust at its inception and remains Chair of Trustees and is Link Trustee for the high school in our Trust, Thomas Alleynes.

Previously he was a governor and vice chair of a local authority school. He is also a National Leader of Governance (NLG) delivering external reviews and support for other schools and academy trusts on behalf of the National Governance.

Sid brings a wide range of experience and leadership in the education and business sectors to his role as chair, having held three secondary head teacher posts and worked in senior roles in local authorities. He also directed national industry and education partnerships at the University of Warwick.

He has worked as a senior education adviser at the Department for Education, including having regional responsibility, as a school improvement consultant, 14-19 adviser and free school education adviser. He remains a Departmental external expert.

Sid has also worked in the business sector as director of a multinational cost and programme management consultancy company. He is currently a director of a small company.

Sid is committed to the success and well-being of our young people in the Trust and offering high quality education for all.

He is very proud of our young people and what they achieve as they move through our three-tier system, from nursery school to post-16 provision at our high school. He sees that our Trust works in partnership with parents and communities for the benefit of the students who represent the future of our country.

Over the next five years he aims to support the Trust to welcome other like-minded, schools into our family and continue to improve and develop our high-quality education.
